Magnetism Flashcards
Magnet
A piece of iron that has atoms lined up in a certain way that sets up a magnetic field, attracting other iron containing materials.
How many poles does a magnet have?
Two; a north pole and a south pole.
How do magnets fit together?
Opposites attract in this situation, while two magnets of the same pole will repel each other.
Where is the magnetic force the strongest?
Near the poles.
How are magnets created?
By melting metal and using its natural magnetic field to align the ferromagnetic domains in the iron.
Magnetic field
It is centered around the pole of the magnet and is considered a vector.
How does a magnetic field snap together?
A magnetic field originates at the north pole of a magnet and terminates at the south pole.
Where is Earth’s magnetic North Pole?
At the geographic South Pole.
Where is Earth’s magnetic South Pole?
At the geographic North Pole.
