Magnetic Resonance Imaging Flashcards
Compare how water and fat look on a T1-weighted scan
water is dark, fat is bright
Compare how water and fat look on on T2-weighted snan.
Water is bright, fat is dark
- T2 = H20; remember this and just think T1 is opposite
- look at cerebral spinal fluid and it will the white/bright
In patients undergoing enhanced MRI, what is the most feared complication?
Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis
- skin fibrosis/hardening, plaques/pigmentation; joint contractures; fibrosis of internal organs
What is the major risk factor for developing NSF?
GFR < 30
A patient has an Interstim. Can they undergo MRI?
Head-only MRI is safe. Device may get warm during procedure.
Is an artificial urethral sphincter MRI safe?
yes
Which penile prostheses are MRI safe?
AMS 700 series (most common used), Ambicor, Dura II
Which penile prostheses are MIR conditional
Titan series, Spectra, Genesis
Are ureteral stents MRI safe?
Yes
- the Cook Black Silicone Filiform and Resonance (metal stent) are MRI conditional
Are brachytherapy seeds MRI safe
They are MRI conditional
