A

When electricity is passed through a coil of wire, the coil has a magnetic field around it, this is an electromagnet.

How do you make a compass

A

All magnetic materials have a magnetic domain which acts like a tiny magnet. Usually they’re jumbled but in a magnet they point in the same directions. By stroking the needle with a magnet, you can line up the domain to magnetise the needle
