Data Handling Flashcards
1
Q
What is an error? Give examples?
A
An error is an incorrect result that can usually be explained. E.g human error, systematic error, zero error
2
Q
What is an uncertainty?
A
It’s a normal spread of results often to do with measuring an instrument- this should be taken into account
3
Q
What is an anomalous result/anomaly?
A
It’s a result that doesn’t fit the pattern
4
Q
Explain best fit lines
A
- It may be current or straight
- It shows the trend
- It may or may not pass through any points
- It doesn’t pass through anomalies
5
Q
How do you find the uncertainty?
A
Plus or minus the range
E.g for 40 degrees, 2.0 +/- 0.1g
6
Q
What’s the range?
A
Difference between lowest and highest repeat reading
7
Q
What’s the variation?
A
The lowest to highest repeat reading
