magnetic effect of current Flashcards
Concept of Magnetic Field
if magnet is placed in a magnetic field, then it experiences a force on it, Also, when a
magnet is placed near a current carrying conductor, then it experiences the similar force,
it means that current carrying conductor produces a magnetic field around it.
biot savart’s law
dB=µ0 i dl sin@/4πr^2
magnetic field due to long straight current carrying conductor
B=µ0I{sin@1+sin@2}/4πr
magnetic field at the centre of the loop for N turns
B=µ0N*I/2R
axis of circular loop
B=µ0NIR^2/2(R^2+r^2)^3/2
ampere circuital law
∮B.dl=µ0*I
. Magnetic Field due to a Thick (Cylindrical) Wire
Magnetic field at a point
outside the wire
B=µ0Ir/2πR^2(r
Magnetic Field due to a Solenoid
A current carrying
solenoid behaves as a bar
magnet.For such a solenoid, the magnetic field inside it is uniform
and directed axially.
● For a solenoid coil of infinite length at a point on its
axial line, the magnetic field,
B=µ0ni
n is number of turns per unit length.
At the end of solenoid,
B=µ0ni/2
At the end field is half of at the centre, this is called
end effect.
Toroidal Solenoids
For a toroid (i.e. a ring shaped closed solenoid) magnetic
field at any point within the core of toroid
B=µ0ni
n=N/2πR, radius of a toriod
