-Even when her own sister is saying that John cannot provide for his family, Maggie very quickly jumps to his defence despite her being the one who has to do more work to compensate for johns unemployment. Maggie is willing to go above and beyond the usual roles of a 1930s wife to provide for John and their family, Maggie values her relationship with John.

  • Maggie chooses to say that she “Still Loves John” this suggests that despite the tough times and difficult stages her and John have been through together they remain a strong couple. she chooses to still remain loyal to him and stay with him. They are presented as a constant throughout the chaos of the play.
