Great push for technology
-A lot of changes within the Legal Operations space are happening because of the increase in availability of legal technology.
-This is requiring a new set of skills within the legal team from managing this change and implementation.
-As such more nuanced legal and tech knowledge is now necessary
Limited budgets for legal teams
-Legal teams are regularly seen as a cost centre to the business and as such operate on limited budgets as they do not generate their own revenue.
-This has a knock on effect to not being to spend money on new tools that will ultimately improve their efficiency.
The rise of a job title
-The trap can be to fall into thinking that legal operations is a new function.
-This is not the case, general counsel’s themselves have been practices legal operations for many years. However, it is only now (or the past 5 years that there has been a dedicated job title to this.
-The UK tends to be further ahead than the rest of Europe with Germany very far behind.
