What is a moment?
Turning force about a pivot. They will act in clockwise/anti-clockwise direction
When in equilibrium..
The anti-clockwise moments = the clockwise moments about a pivot
Calculation for a moment
Moment (Nm) = Force(N) x distance from pivot(m)
How do you find the effort in a pulley?
Effort = load/no. of ropes
How do you find a class 1 lever?
The pivot is in between the load and effort eg a bottle opener
How do you find a class 2 lever?
The pivot is on one end, closer to the load eg a wheel barrow
How do you find a class 3 lever?
The pivot is on one end, closer to the effort eg an arm lifting a ball
How do you find out the weight a pulley diagram is lifting?
Weight=effort x number of ropes
