Electricity Flashcards
What does the current do in series circuits?
It stays the same all the way round the circuit
What does the voltage do in series circuits?
It will add up to the voltage of the batteries/divides up between the components in the circuit. This is conservation of energy
Current out of the battery =
The current into the battery
What does the current do in parallel circuits?
Adds up to the current in and out of the battery. It also splits and rejoins, equalling the same amount
What does the voltage do in parallel circuits?
It is the same as the battery across each loop of the circuits
How do you calculate voltage, current and resistance?
V = I x R
I = V/R
R = V/I
What is the units for voltage?
V
What is the unit for resistance?
Ohms (Ω)
What is the unit for current?
A
How do you calculate charge, time and current?
Q = I x T
I = Q/T
T = Q/I
What to components do?
Converts electrical energy to other forms such as light, heat, kinetic and sound
If components are identical what will they have?
Very similar voltage and current values
When cells are added to make a battery what else is added?
Voltages
How do you calculate the total resistance of resistors in a series circuit?
R = R1 + R2 + R3 etc etc
How do you calculate the total resistance of resistors in a parallel circuit?
R = (R1 x R2) / (R1 + R2)
