Machine Power Flow Flashcards
A device that converts the fluid energy of the hydraulic system into mechanical energy using a hydraulic cylinder or motor
Actuator (hydraulic)
A current that periodically reverses its direction of flow
Alternating current (AC)
The surrounding or circulating temperature of a fluid or object
Ambient temperature
A mechanism for temporarily keeping one part in a certain position relative to that of another, released by application of force to one of the parts
Detent
An electrical current that flows in only One Direction
Direct current (DC)
Mechanical device used for engaging and disengaging one rotating element from another rotating element, such as a shaft
Clutch
A machine that converts the energy of a fuel into mechanical energy or power to produce force and motion
Engine
A mechanical or hydraulic device used to control the speed of an engine
Governor
Operated by the pressure created by forcing water, oil, or another liquid through a comparatively narrow pipe or orifice
Hydraulic
A machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy
Motor
A scientific law stating that pressure at any one point in a closed static fluid system will be applied to all points in the system in every direction and will exert equal forces on equal areas; the basis of hydraulic theory
Pascal’s law
Operated by air or by the pressure or exhaustion of air.
Pneumatic
Transforms hydraulic working energy into rotary mechanical energy, which is applied to a resisting object by means of a shaft.
Pump (hydraulic)
An electromagnetic coil used to control a mechanical device such as a valve or relay contacts
Solenoid
Constriction due to a decrease in temperature
Thermal expansion
A device that uses fluid, usually oil, to transmit torque from one shaft to another
Torque converter (fluid coupler)
