What is Juxtaposition?
Two words that contrast each other near each other in a text
What is an oxymoron?
Two contrasting words next to each other in a sentence
What are the SPARCH techniques? {used for accuracy}
Sentence lengths and structures, spelling
Paragraphs, punctuation
Ambitious vocabulary and punctuation used accurately
Register (tone, formality)
Connectives, capital letters
Homophones
What is a simple sentence?
A sentence consisting of only one clause, with a single subject and verb
What is a compound sentence?
A sentence with more than one subject or verb, and two clauses
What is a complex sentence?
A sentence containing a subordinate clause or clauses
What is a subordinate clause?
Dependant on the main clause (doesn’t make a sentence on its own)
What is a lexical field?
Many words that are relevant to a particular subject
Eg) within the lexical field of death
When are semi colons used?
Semi colons are used between clauses which could stand alone, but which are closely related
What is a soliloquy?
When a character is talking to themselves and there is nobody else in the room
What is dramatic irony?
Dramatic irony is whee the audience knows or understands something that the characters on stage cannot
What does dystopian mean?
Set in the future, with harsh and inhumane behaviour
