-he is distraught at Duncan’s murder ‘most sacrilegious murder’ shows how a good subject and loyal noble should react – contrasts Macbeth who caused the murder and betrayed his country

-when Malcolm pretends to be evil Macduff says ‘thy hope ends here’ reflecting his want for a new king for Scotland but not just any old king – he wants a king who will benefit Scotland – proving his loyalty
how is loving emotions and guilt all shown by macduff
-he is seen to have a strong relationship with his family at their death he’s distraught and blames himself
-his ideas of masculinity are not only synonymous with violence and power but also with emotion and love – his family means the world to him and at their death he is broken and can’t help but blame himself – maybe also reflecting how he still holds traditional ideas of masculinity that he should protect his children and wife

how is strenghth shown by macduff
Strength
-he is seen as a strong character mentally and physically – he fights to avenge the death of his children and wife – by wanting revenge from Macbeth and wanting to kill him
- we can see his hatred and passion against Macbeth ‘hell hound’ ‘no bloodier villain’ this drives him to fight for his country against Macbeth and ultimately Macbeth’s violence leads to Macduff’s passion and Macbeth’s death – this is seen as a positive portrayal of violence contrasting Macbeth – reflecting how the morality of violence is based on who is being fought for

he consistently fights for Scotland and a good king for it against Macbeth GREAT CHAIN OF BEING
IMPORTANCE – his loyalty to his country contrasts Macbeth – he ultimately succeeds and conquers Macbeth showing the importance of loyalty to one’s country
