Jewish perspective
-body is god’s property; abortion is prima facie impermissible. if fetus is threat to life= abortion is required.
-life occurs in womb (needs fertilization and implantation)
so in vitro is okay
-technology is morally neutral: can be positive or negative depending on intent of use
catholic perspective
natural law theory: medical science= permissible in name of faith
- for SC research, embryo is (or isn’t) person, policies can (cant) be made against abortion for cells or cloning
protestant perspective
embryos are the most vulnerable and when they are not conflicting with another right to life, they must be protected (future of values argument)
-desirable end, unjustifiable mean= seek alternatives
islam
40 day intervals of gestation- to 4 month barrier = “ensoulment”= quickening (independent movement of fetus from mother)
- prior to 4 mo, abortion is permissible
- research is act of faith and brings us closer to devine

false negative- tested negative for harm in animals, will harm humans
false efficacy- tested effective in animals, not humans
false inefficacy- not effective in animals, effective in humans
