M3: The Spheres Of The Earth Flashcards
Blanket of gas which covers the earth’s surface and its inhabitants from the harshness of space.
The Atmosphere
Amount of water vapor present in the air.
Humidity
Filters out the harmful ultraviolet radiation emitted by the Sun
Ozone layer
Almost all the weather activities occur in this layer
Troposphere
Boundary between the stratosphere and the mesosphere
Stratopause
This layer of the atmosphere has the coldest region in the atmosphere reaching -100°C
Mesosphere
Temperature here can reach up until 2000°C depending on solar activity
Exosphere
What is the most abundant gas?
N2 (nitrogen)
Water that is on the surface of the planet, underground, and in the air. Approximately 75% of Earth’s total surface.
The Hydrosphere
97% of Earth’s total water : covers 70% of Earth’s total surface
Saltwater : Ocean
Largest source of fresh water
Snow / Glacier
Geothermally-heated groundwater that emerged to the surface. May be acidic or alkaline.
Hot springs
Acts as a channel for the water cycle that produces weather changes
Clouds
HYDROLOGICAL CYCLE
a. Precipitation
b. Evaporation
c. Transpiration
d. Condensation
What is the right order?
Evaporation - Condensation - Precipitation - Transpiration
Originates from wind blowing over the surface of water.
Wave
