Patterns of Development
Reveals what a reader should learn and is usually written in chronological order
Narration
Provides details on the idea by using either a sensory or spatial pattern
Description
Impression of what is observed; Used in Fiction
Subjective Description
the controlling idea should identify the object, scene, or person to be described as objectively as possible and the descriptive details of the paragraph should add substance to the main point; Used in Reportorial and Science Writing
Objective Description
Explains info through the use of illustrations, examples, and descriptions
Definition
General statement and then provides specific and concrete examples to expound on the main idea
Exemplification
Shows how two or more people/places, or things are alike or different
Comparison and Contrast
Presents a problem and describes two or more possible solutions to the problem
Problem-Solution
Means to convince someone that your opinion on a subject is the right one
Persuasion
Used to show how the facts, events, or concepts result due to other facts, events, or concepts
