M3: Fractures with Images Flashcards

This version contains images of fractures to be identified. Additional notes were added from some of the lecture and is not 100% comprehensive, nor are they expected to be remembered.

1
Q

What type of fracture is this?

A

Answer: Pott’s Fracture or Pott Fracture

Notes from Lecture Video:

  • named from stepping in a pothole or a similar mechanism where ankle rolls and snaps fibula and tibia
  • is specific to the lower leg; fibula and tibia

Q

What type of fracture is this?

A

Answer: Greenstick Fracture

Notes from Lecture Video:

  • Specific to youth. Kids bones are pliable, instead of fracturing through it bends and cracks
  • Notice angulation deformity

Q

What type of fracture is this?

A

Answer: Comminuted Fracture

Video Lecture Notes:
- multiple fragments

  • Non-specific to region; but femur is notable
  • Have to be careful, there is risk of arteries being involved with comminuted fractures of the femur
  • Typically caused by very violent event; e.g. multi-story drop, ATV accidents

Q

What type of fracture is this?

A

Answer: Colles Fracture

Notes from Lecture Video:

  • Specific to distal end of arm; the wrist
  • Specifically the distal end of the radius (sometimes with ulna too)
  • Notice the level of displacement is more noticeable in different view angles in this image

Q

What type of fracture is this?

A

Answer: Epiphyseal Fracture

Notes from Lecture Video:
- a growth plate fracture

  • specific to youth
  • can cause issues with fusing of growth plates

Q

What type of fracture is this?

A

Answer: Spiral Fracture

Notes from Lecture Video:
- Needs rotation force/torsion kind of event

  • Mainly seen in youth
  • High probability of child abuse if there isn’t a very specific mechanism like in sports
  • Not specific to region, but tend to see them most in long bones like radius, ulna, tibia, fibia
