M2C2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is a scalar quantity?
A
A value that has magnitude but no direction
2
Q
What is a vector quantity?
A
A value that has both magnitude and direction
3
Q
Whats the difference between speed and velocity/
A
Speed is calculated using time and distance, speed is a scalar
Velocity is calculated using time and displacement, velocity is a vector
An object can have a speed of 100 m s^-1 and a velocity of 0 m s^-1 if it end up exactly where it started
4
Q
What is the resultant force of;
- —-> 5N
- ——–> 9N
A
14N
5
Q
What is the resultant force of;
9N
A
4N
6
Q
What are the trigonometry formulas?
A
SOH-CAH-TOA Sine(θ)=O/H Cosine(θ)=A/H Tangent(θ)=O/A H = Hypotenuse (The longest side of a triangle) O = Opposite (The length oppersite θ) A = Adjacent (The angle next to θ)
7
Q
In a vector triangle which side is always the resultant?
A
The hypotenuse, because it’s the longest (a.k.a the greatest in magnitude)
