M2A1 5 Major Components Flashcards
Barrel Assembly
Barrel Tube, Flash Hider, Recuperator Spring.
Barrel Tube - Houses the ammo
Flash Hider - Reduces flash & blast
Spring - Recoiling parts bak to batt
40mm 5 Major Components
Barrel Assembly Breech Casing Assembly Breech Ring Assembly Automatic Loader Assembly Recoil Mechanism
Breech Casing Assembly
Recoiling parts of the gun slide in recoil and counter recoil in the breech casing. Recoiling parts include Barrel, Breech Ring, Loader Tray.
Breech Ring Assembly
Is threaded internally at the front to receive the barrel assembly. Has a recessed area from top to bottom to limit the upward travel of the breechblock when closing.
Automatic Loader Assembly
Acts as both a cartridge magazine and loading device for the 40mm gun.
Recoil Mechanism
Consists of a RECUPERATOR SPRING and a RECOIL CYLINDER mounted under front end of the breech casing. When fired, barrel, breech ring and loading tray move in recoil. Recoiling 7.4-8.3 inches. Fluid once again exchanged within the cylinder and controls the speed of counter-recoil, thus the rate of fire.
Breech Casing Assembly - Top Cover
Access the top if the breech block. MUST be closed during firing operations
Breech Casing Assembly - Side Cover
Has a cam surface on the inside which operates the breech ring outer crank assembly to lower the breech block during recoil
Breech Casing Assembly - Rear Cover
Acts as an abutment for the auto loader and carries the cartridge case deflector and bracket, which mounts the recoil indicator. Recoil indicators function is to measure recoil distance. DO NOT FIRE if recoil exceeds 8.3 Inches
Breech Casing Assembly - Bottom Cover
Permits the removal of the breech block with the breech ring inner cranks, breech closing spring assembly and extractors without further disassembly of the gun.
Breech Casing Assembly - Hand Operating Lever
Attached to the left side of the breech casing assembly the hand operating lever opens the breech to accept the 1st round of ammo and also cocks the gun by pulling back the rammer shoe by rotating the rammer cocking levers back.
Breech Casing Assembly - Firing Selector Lever
Has 3 positions SINGLE FIRE, RAPID FIRE, and SAFE/STOP FIRE.
Breech Ring Assembly - Breech Block Assembly
Composed of a breech block and firing pin mechanism. The firing pin mechanism consist of the breech block inner and outer cocking levers, inner cocking lever plunger (sear), Spring, firing pin, spring and cover.
Breech Ring Assembly - Breech Ring Inner Crank & Outer Crank and Closing Spring
The inner cranks raise and lower the breech block assembly, operate the outer cocking lever and actuate the inner cocking lever plunger.
Breech Ring Assembly - Cartridge Case Extractors
Serve 2 purposes, hold the breechblock in the open position and to extract and eject empty cartridge cases from the chamber
Automatic Loader Assembly - Feed Pawls
Purpose is to engage the cartridges and force them downward onto the loader tray
Automatic Loader Assembly - Stop Pawls
They prevent he cartridge from moving upwards during vertical movement of the feed Pawls.
Automatic Loader Assembly - Feed Rollers
They purpose is to ensure that only one round is fed onto the loader tray at one time
Automatic Loader Assembly - Loader Tray
Device used to hold the cartridge and recoils with the breech ring.
Cartridge Rammer Assembly - Rammer Rod & Rammer Spring
The rammer Rod compresses the rammer spring to store energy to catapult the round into the chamber with the assistance of the rammer levers
Cartridge Rammer Assembly - Rammer Levers
They are mounted on the rammer shoe and hold the cartridge in the loader tray. their function is to catapult the cartridge into the chamber
Cartridge Rammer Assembly - Catch Levers
Provide a stop for the rammer shoe depending on the operation of the gun
Cartridge Rammer Assembly - Rammer Release Lever
Function is to release the tray rammer catch lever. The lever is released by the beveled projection on the bottom of the loader tray
Cartridge Rammer Assembly - Feed Control Rammer Catch Lever
It’s primary purpose is to prevent weapon from expending all the rounds in the loader tray.
Cartridge Rammer Assembly - Automatic Loader Control Mechanism
Contains a thumb lever which controls the feed control lever. This mechanism prevents the weapon from firing out
