M2-L4: Tissues Flashcards
What are the 5 main tissues?
Epithelial - Connective - Vascular - Muscular - Nervous
The cells forming this tissue are closely packed with no intercellular spaces in between, arise from a non-cellular basement membrane, and are not supplied with blood vessels.
Epithelial Tissue
These tissues line the surfaces, help in absorption, secretion, and also bear protoplasmic projections such as the cilia.
Epithelial Tissue
Have flattened cells with a centrally placed nucleus. Have irregular margins.
Squamous Epithelium
Cube like cells with a centrally placed nucleus. They appear polygonal.
Cuboidal Epithelium
Have cilia at free ends.
Ciliated Columnar Epithelium
Long column-like cells, each with nucleus at the basal end.
Columnar Epithelium
Numerous folds at free ends—folds looking like bristles of a brush.
Brush-bordered Columnar Epithelium
__________ epithelium is present in the body, where there is lot of wear and tear.
Stratified
What are the two components of connective tissues?
Matrix - Cells
What are the three types of connective tissue?
Proper - Supporting - Fluid
What are the three parts of proper connective tissue?
Areolar - Adipose Tissue - Fibrous
It is the most widely spread connective tissue (proper).
Areolar
What are the 3 cells forming the areolar tissue?
Fibroblasts - Macrophages - Mast Cell
Form the yellow (elastin) and white (collagen) fibres in the matrix.
Fibroplasts
