M2 L1 Flashcards
List the functions of muscle cells then group them as striated, smooth, voluntary, and involuntary. also skeletal cardiac, and smooth muscle cells
what are the 2 general functions of muscles cells
- store chemical energy
- covert chemical energy into mechanical energy
what is isovolumetric contraction
volume doesn’t change with contraction
when you cut the muscle belly in half and look in it, what components do you find?
- epimysium: connective tissue on the surface that ensheath muscle
- perimysiom: connective tissue in the muscle that surrounds individual muscle fascicles (fiber bundles)
- muscle fibers: long cylinders coming out of muscle. theyre individual multinuceluated cells and are 50 microm diameter.
if you take one muscle fiber and cut it in half, what do you find inside?
you have the cell membrane that contains myofibrils which are single organelles inside of muscle fibers.
If you cut through a single myofibril, what do you see?
it is made up of z discs that divide the myofibril into compartments. Space between them is 2.1 micrometer
