M11.3 Flashcards
Do hinges connect flight controls to structure?
Yes
What is the purpose of a ball bearing in a hinge?
They compensate for misalignment
How many sleeves does a primary hinge have?
Only one, The normal hinge has two
How do you compensate for surface flutter with a mechanically driven control surface?
By static balancing (Fitting weights in front of the hinge line to offset the mass of the surface behind the hinge line)
How do you measure the deflection angle on any control surface?
By using an index plate or a inclinometer
What moves rapidly when they are actuated and can be very dangerous?
Flight control surfaces
When should warning notices be displayed on the flight deck controls?
When work is in process on control surfaces or the associated actuators
Where can a pylon be located?
Under each wing and/or in the tail/rear fuselage
What level of structure does the torque box belong to?
Primary
What are power plants divided into? And by using what achieves this division?
They are divided into cooling is owned by fireproof bulkheads (firewalls)
On most modern aircraft, how many flightdeck windows are there?
Six
How many main areas make up the wing structure and what are they called?
Three, the left wing box, centre wing box, right wing box
What are the main components of the left and right wing boxes?
Rear and front spar, ribs, upper and lower stringers and lower skin panels
On a cabin window, which pane of glass can hold the differential pressure and why?
Both, because either one could fail
On a cabin window, where is the vent hole located and what is its purpose?
On the inner pane at the bottom in the centre which means that the pressure between the panes of glass will equalise and also stop moisture buildup
What are the tracks that are used to attach seats known as?
L track or I track
What does ULD stand for?
Unitload device
What is a ULD used for?
It is used for loading luggage, freight and mail on widebody aircraft or some narrowbody aircraft
What are the five categories of doors?
Cargo door, main entry doors, service doors, cockpit doors, emergency exit doors
What are the three linings on a passenger door?
Lower lining, centre lining, upper lining
Which device prevents operation of the door handle?
Flight lock mechanism
Wing escape patches are also known by what name?
Plug doors
From the 1st of November 2003 which ICAO Annex was amended?
Annex 6
In-flight how long is a cockpit door allowed to be open for?
Only long enough for someone to pass through it
What can be found above a cockpit door?
A decompression flap
