M11.2 Flashcards
What are the three aircraft structure classifications?
- primary structure
- secondary structure
- tertiary structure
Where would you find out what structure classification a part is?
The AMM
What is a primary structure?
A critical load bearing structure (landing gear, keel beam)
What is a secondary structure?
They aren’t critical but should be repaired as soon as possible (access panels)
What is a tertiary structure?
Anything that isn’t a that important to the airframe
How is stress created?
By internal force of a substance which opposes or resists deformation
How are structural members connected to each other?
Brackets, rivets, bolts, screws, and nuts
What are the six major types a aircraft can have?
- tension
- compression
- torsion
- shear
- bending
- hoop stress
What is hoop stress?
Stress caused due to pressurisation and depressurisation (just like your lungs)
What are the three body coordinates (reference planes) that Boeing use?
- vertical axis (body buttocks)
- lateral axis or transverse axis (body water lines)
- longitudinal axis (body stations)
Where do body stations get measured from?
In front of the aircrafts nose
What is body buttock 0 indicate?
The centreline going down the fuselage
Is the wing reference plane inclined with the dihedral of the wing?
Yes
What is a nacelle?
Another word for engines
Where is nacelle station 0 positioned?
In front of the engine
Where is the nacelle waterline 0?
Below the engine
What are the three body coordinates (reference planes) that airbus use?
- longitudinal axis (X)
- lateral axis (Y)
- vertical axis (Z)
What are the different types of zones on an aircraft?
100- lower fuselage 200- upper fuselage 300- empennage (aft fuselage and stabilisers) 400- engines 500- left wing 600- right wing 700- landing gear 800- doors
How are sub major zones identified?
The second digit of the number code
How do you stop depressurisation from drain holes?
They have a spring that shuts them when pressurised
What are the two types of lightning strike damage?
Direct damage - you can see the damage
Indirect damage - you cant see the damage
Where are the two most likely places of lightning strike hitting?
The nose and the trailing edges
How many grounds should be in fuel vapour ares?
Two
What are the two general types of fuselage. Construction?
Truss type and monocoque type
What are floorboards made from?
Honeycomb composite
What attaches both wings together?
A wing box
What is a nacelle?
The streamlined enclosure that holds the engine
Hat are the three types of surface protection?
- pretreatment
- paint coatings
- special coatings
What PH level and chloride level should water have for external cleaning?
PH of between 7 and 8 with chloride level less than 100ppm
