M/S UPPER BACK Flashcards
Trapezius proximal attachement
medial third superior nuchal line; external occipital protuberance; nuchal ligament; spinous processes of C7-T12 vertebrae
Distal attachment of trapezius
Lateral third of clavicle; acromion and spine of scapula
Innervation of trapezius
spinal accessory nerve (CNXI) (motor fibers) and C3, C4 spinal nerves (pain and proprioceptive fibers)
Muscle action of trapezius
Descending part elevates; ascending part depresses and middle part (all parts together) retracts scapula; descending and ascending parts at together to rotate glenoid cavity superiorly
Proximal attachment of the latissimus dorsi
Spinous processes of inferior 6 thoracic vertebrae, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest, and inferior 3 or 4 ribs
distal attachment of the latissimus dorsi
floor of inter tubercular sulcus of humerus
innervation of the latissimus dorsi
thoracodorsal nerve (C6, C7 and come C8)
Muscle action of the latissimus dorsi
Extends, adducts, and medially rotates humerus; raises body toward arms during climbing
Proximal attachment of the Levator scapulae
posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C1-C4 vertebrae
Distal attachment of the Levator scapulae
Medial border of scapula superior to root of scapular spine
Innervation of the levator scapulae
dorsal scapular (C5) and cervical (C3, C4) nerves
Muscle action of the levator scapulae
Elevates the scapula and tilts its glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating scapula
Rhomboid minor and major proximal attachment
minor: Nuchal attachement; spinous processes of C7 and T1 vertebrae
major: spinous process of T2-T5 vertebrae
Rhomboid minor and major distal attachment
Minor: Smooth triangular area at medial end of scapular spine
Major: medial border of scapula from level of spine to inferior angle
Innervation for rhomboid minor and major
Dorsal scapular nerve (C4, C5)
