Lysosomes Flashcards
1
Q
Pompe’s Disease
A
- Alpha-glycosidase
- neuromuscular disease of infants, children and adults (most often muscles of breathing, heart and mobility affected); build-up of glycogen in lysosomes expands organelle, excess glycogen and enzymes leak out damaging muscle; missing lysosomal enzyme is alpha-glycosidase
2
Q
Tay-Sach’s Disease
A
-Hexosaminidase A
1 in 27 are carriers and 1 in 250 get the disease (Jews of central and eastern European descent, French Canadian communities of Quebec, old order Amish in PA, Cajuns in LA) – babies born without Hexosaminidase A which allow fatty proteins to build up in the brain (affects sight, hearing, movement and mental development)
3
Q
Gout
A
hperuricemia in blood; depositing in joints (arthritis) and kidneys (stones); pierced lysosomal membranes release enzymes.
