Lymphoma Flashcards
what are the two types of lymphoma
hodgkins and non-hodgkins
pathology of hodgkins lymphoma
malignant proliferation of lymphocytes in germinal centre of lymph nodes
presentation of hodgkins lymphoma
lymphadenopathy weight loss puritis night sweats fever SOB cough infections abdominal pain
characteristics of lymphadenopathy in HL
contiguous spread (progressive spreading e.g. left side of neck to right)
painless
asymmetrical
investigations for hodgkins lymphoma
lymph node biopsy - diagnostic - reed-sternberg cells
FBC - normocytic anaemia, raised WCC
LDH - raised
CT
risk factors for hodgkins
EBV
HIV
autoimmune conditions
FH
management of hodgkins
combination chemotherapy ABVD
radiotherapy
monoclonal antibodies (rituximab)
immunotherapy using checkpoint inhibitors
what is non-hodgkins lymphoma
group of lymphomas
develop in nodes but can be extra nodal
commonest type of NHL
diffuse large B cell
marker for diffuse large B cell NHL
CD20 on cells
2nd most common NHL
follicular lymphoma
presentation of NHL
painless lymphadenopathy
splenomegaly
B symptoms - fever, weight loss, night sweats
manifestations of extra-nodal involvement
bone marrow - anaemia
GI - bowel obstruction
CNS - loss of sensation in legs
investigations for NHL
biopsy is diagnostic
