Lymphoma Flashcards

1
Q

There are 4 phenotypes of lymphoma in ferrets. What are they, and (briefly) what are they like?

A

1) peripheral T cell - terrible - 4 month MST
2) Gastric - rare MALT lymphoma, likely helicobacter related, B lymphocytes
3) Cutaneous - still T cell origin, mature lymphocytes, infiltrative, can have excellent px with removal. Feet & extremities. “red feet, definitely treat!”
4) Peripheral B cell - better - 9 month MST

Q

Most common cause of lymphocytosis on ferret CBC?

A

Helicobacter. Just to mess with you.

Can have leukemia too; bone marrow biopsy ideal to differentiate.

Q

different forms of cutaneous lymphoma in rabbits?

A
  • Epitheliotropic/mycosis fungoides - T cell L in epidermis & adnexa
  • Nonepitheliotropic - B cell L in middle-deep dermis; this has a large cel subtype and a “T cell rich B cell” subtype

Q

do rabbits get ALL/CLL?

A

Not as such. They can develop bone marrow/grade 4 lymphoma, which often has a leukemic phase, but isn’t a leukemia as such

13
Q

which cells respond fastest to radiation therapy for a thymic tumor?

A

Lymphocytes shrink quickly, epithelial cells slow to not at all; so response to tx will vary by mix of cell types in patient

16
Q

possible treatment for lymphoma in GPs?

A

in general has a v poor px but if you’re going to tx, lomustine + prednisolone may possibly give a longer survival time

17
Q

Elspar IV in a rabbit causes

A

can cause anaphylactic shock

18
Q

which type of hamster is more likely to get cutaneous lymphoma?

A

Syrian. epitheliotropic/mycosis fungoides.

19
Q

what is epizootic lymphoma of young hams?

A

caused by Hamster polyomavirus

introduce virus to naive population, most die, once established, it switches to a skin tumor form that they can survive
