Lymphoid Malignancy Flashcards
What are the symptoms, diagnostic tests and treatment of acute lymphocytic leukaemia?
Symptoms: bone marrow failure +/- increased WCC, +/or bone, joint pain, infection, sweats
Investigations: Hb, WCC, platelets, bone marrow for platelets (histology = diagnosis)
Tm: induction chemo, consolidation therapy, CNS directed treatment, maintenance treatment,
What are the symptoms, diagnostic tests and treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia?
Symptoms: asymptomatic, bone marrow failure, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, fever and sweats
USUALLY PICKED UP ON BLOOD TESTS FOR OTHER REASONS
Staging uses binets
Tm: often watch and wait, cytotoxic chemo, monoclonal antibodies, novel agents eg bruton kinase inhibitors, P13K inhibitor, BCL-2 inhibitor
What are the symptoms, diagnostic tests and treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Symptoms: swelling in neck, armpit or groin usually painless, +/- night sweats, unintentional weight loss, fever, cough, breathlessness, itch
Test: bone marrow biopsy
Tm: combination chemo, +/- radiotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, immunotherapy
What are the symptoms, diagnostic tests and treatment of non Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Symptoms: low grade is indolent, often asymptomatic, high grade is aggressive and fast growing
Tests: bone marrow biopsy
Tm: chemotherapy for low grade however are incurable, combination chemotherapy (chemo + anticd20 monoclonal antibody) for high grade however usually curable
What are the symptoms, diagnostic tests and treatment of myeloma?
Symptoms: bone disease, bone marrow failure, renal failure, infections (remember CRAB)
Tests: biopsy to confirm histology of excess plasma cells in bone marrow
Tm: chemotherapy, biphosphonate therapy, radiotherapy, steroids, surgery, autologous stem cell transplant
