Lymphatics And Salivary System Flashcards
How does lymph fluid enter the node?
Through AFFERENT lymph vessels
How does lymph drain out of the node?
Through EFFERENT lymph vessels
How is fluid absorbed by the lymph vessels?
Hydrostatic pressure
What are in lymph nodes?
T and B cells
Describe the development of lymph nodes
Lymphatic endothelial cells leave the blood vessels and aggregate to form lymph sacs with mesenchymal cells, which will then lead to nodules. The nodules become filled with sinuses, completing the nodule. Lymph cells then migrate from the thymus, marrow, and thymus . The capsule and trabeculae surround the node.
Describe the structure of tonsils
From lymph sacs
Un encapsulated
Covered in non keratin, stratified squamous epithelium
Form crypts
What is the purpose of tonsils?
Immunologic first line of defense (digestive and respiratory systems)
4 parts of the tonsillar ring
- Palatine - bt palatopharyngeal and palatoglossal
- Tubal - lat walls of nasopharynx (superior)
- Pharyngeal/ Adenoid - roof of nasopharynx
- Lingual - base of tongue
6 major salivary ducts
2 of each:
Parotid
Sub mand
Sub ling
How do the parotid (and other) glands form?
Invagination of ectoderm bt mand and max swellings formed from epithelial-mesenchymal interactions
Components and stimulation of serous secretion
Thin watery fluid with amylases, lipases, peroxide sea, lactoferrin, and immunoglobulin A
Parasympathetic
Components and stimulation of mucous secretion
Thick fluid with glycoproteins (mucin)
Sympathetic
Composition of saliva
Electrolytes, amylase, lipase, mucus, lysozyme, lactoferrin, IgA, SLPI
What is acinar structure?
The circular arrangement of cells that surround a central duct
What is the general structure of a salivary gland?
Clumps of lobules form lobes separated by septum are enclosed in a capsule
