Lymphatic System - General Structures Flashcards
The structure that produces B and T-cells, and matures T-cells.
Bone marrow
Oval-shaped masses that are found singularly or in clusters. They are smaller than lymph nodes and do not contain capsules.
Lymphatic nodules
Similar to the major vessels of the cardiovascular system, these vein-like structures have two subtypes.
Lymphatic ducts
Clusters of lymph nodes at the base of the pharynx which contain deep pits called crypts which hold food debris, bacteria, and white blood cells.
Tonsils
Located in the mediastinum and neck region, this structure is largest in children and those going through puberty, then degenerates with age.
Thymus
This structure has a minor role in immunity because it stores good bacteria.
Appendix
This structure is the largest lymphatic organ, located below the diaphragm, behind the ribs, and above the stomach on the left side of the abdomen.
Spleen
This structure is a reservoir and filter for blood.
Spleen
A collection of GALT that contains mostly T-cells but have germinal center of B-cells and macrophages.
Peyer’s patches
