Definition of Lymph.
What is lymph?
A clear , watery fluid that contains white blood cells and drains from the tissues into the bloodstream.
Functions of the Lymphatic system.
What are the three main functions of the lymphatic system?
1- Fluid balance— Returns excess fluid from tissue to the bloodstream.
2- Immune defense— Filters pathogens and produces white blood cells.
3– Fat absorption— Transports fats and fat-soluble vitamins from the digestive system
What are the four major lymphatic organs and their functions?
1- Lymph nodes— Filter lymph and trap pathogens (Found in the neck, armpits, groin)
2- Tonsils— Protect against inhaled or ingested pathogens ( found in the throat)
3- Thymus gland — Produces T-cells for immune defense ( found behind the sternum , active in children )
4- Spleen— Filters blood , removes old red blood cells, and stores white blood cells ( found in the upper left abdomen)
What is the primary function of lymph?
Carries white blood cells and removes waste.
