lymphatic system Flashcards
main function
collect some fluid that escaped from blood and return in to the circulatory system
important role in body’s internal defence against disease causing micro-organisms
structure
consists of:
- network of lymph capillaries joined to larger lymph vessels
- lymph nodes, located along lymph vessels
lymph vessels
blind-ended tubes that collect fluid, proteins and pathogens between the cells
- fluid called lymph moves through the lymph vessels due to constriction of muscles and eventually get returned to blood
lymph nodes
occur at intervals along Lymph vessels
each is surrounded by capsule of connective tissue that extends into a node
lymph enters vessels though the node and it passes through several nodes before entering circulatory system
role of lymphatic system against disease
lymph entering nodes contains cell debris, forewign particles and microorganisms that have penetrated body external defenceless - must be destroyed \
