Lymphatic System Flashcards
It is a system that includes lymph, lymph nodes, and lymphatic vessels.
Lymphatic System
What are the three functions of Lymphatic System?
- Destroying pathogens and filtering waste
- Remove excess fluid, waste, debris, dead blood cells, pathogens, cancer cells and toxins
- Deliver nutrients, oxygen and hormones from the blood to the cells
What is lymphatic?
Very fine vessels or tubes that drains lymph from all over the body.
It is composed of water, protein molecules, salts, glucose, urea, Lymphocytes and other substances.
Lymph
What is the shape of Lymph nodes?
It is usually round and kidney-shaped that the size ranges from very tiny to an inch in diameter.
It acts as physical and biological filter and surveys the fluid for any bacteria, viruses or foreign macromolecules.

Drainage
What is the cause of swollen lymph nodes?
It is caused by the expansion of lymphocytes.
What is the difference between T-cells and B-cells?
T-cells attacks the bacteria directly while B-cells secretes antibodies into the blood.
What happens to germs when a person has an infection?
Germs collect in great numbers in the lymph nodes and that results to a swollen part of a body.
It is a type of body circulation that loops through the lungs.
Pulmonary Circulation
This body circulation loop through the rest of the body to provide oxygenated blood.
Systematic Circulation
Explain the transportation of oxygen-depleted blood and oxygenated blood between Pulmonary circulation and Systematic circulation.
Pulmonary circulation transport oxygen-depleted blood away from the heart and returns oxygenated blood. On the other hand, Systematic circulation transport oxygenated blood to the rest of the body and returns oxygen-depleted blood back to the heart.
It is a body circulation that supplies blood to the heart by means of coronary arteries.
Coronary Circulation
It supplies heart with oxygenated blood.
