Lymphatic system Flashcards
What systems is lymphatic system involved in?
Circulatory + immune
How does lymphatic system aid in immune response?
Produces WBC in lymph nodes, spleen, thymus gland
Where does lymph come from?
High BP in arteries causes fluid that isn’t RBC to leave capillary beds.
Where is lymph filtered at?
Lymphnodes
What is the 90-degree junction called?
Jugulo-subclavian venous confluence. (Venus angle)
Where does lymph from upper right side of body travel?
Right lymphatic duct
Where does lymph from upper left side of body travel?
Thoracic duct
Where is lymph from thoracic duct reintroduced?
Left Jugulo-subclavian venous confluence
Where is lymph from right lymphatic duct reintroduced?
Right Jugulo-subclavian venous confluence
Explain what occurs inside a lymph node
Lymph enters through afferent vessels.
Drains towards medulla.
Dangerous antigens detected - WBC production.
Lymph exits via efferent vessels.
