Lymph Node Exam Flashcards
outline draping procedures for LN exam
draping requires full exposure of the neck and clavicles
after draping, what are you inspecting for?
asymmetry swelling, masses skin changes. inspect from front, side and back
when you find a palpable node, how do you describe it?
characterize any found nodes in terms of tenderness, texture, location, mobility, and size.
Outline the cervical lymph node exam
occipital, post auerical, pre auricular, sub mandibular, submental, cervical chain on either side of the SCM, super-clavicular, infra claviuclar. look for virchows node, which is a sign of advanced cancer.
characterize any found nodes in terms of tenderness, texture, location, mobility, and size.
after the cervical lymph node exam, what do you palpate?
the axillary nodes: CLAMP: central, lateral, anterior, medial, and posterior
characterize any found nodes in terms of tenderness, texture, location, mobility, and size.
after the axillary nodes, what do you palpate?
the epitrochlear nodes around 3 cm above the medial epicondyle of the humus, or just medial to the muscle of the biceps. draping requires full exposure of the elbow arm.
- inspect for asymmetry, swelling, masses, skin changes
- palpate while the arm is slightly flexed. perform on both arms.
- characterize any found nodes in terms of tenderness, texture, location, mobility, and size.
- enlarged lymph nodes are due to malignancy or syphilli infection.
after palpating the epitrochlea nodes, what do you palpate
the inguinal nodes. the sp can cover their chest again but now they should expose their abdomen. palpate the inguinal nodes along the inguinal ligament.
keep one side draped at a time
inspect for asymmetry, swelling, masses and skin changes
- palpatede the inguinal and femoral lymph nodes
- characterize any found nodes in terms of tenderness, texture, location, mobility, and size.
- enlarged lymph nodes in this area are often due to a sexually transmitted infection, cancer or infections of the pelvis
enlarged inguinal nodes are indicative of:
