LVO Flashcards

1
Q

Recency for LVTO and LVA is maintained by?

A

Participation in the recurrent training program. Competency is achieved when a rejected takeoff and a V1 engine failure is completed.

Q

Define Runway Visual Range (RVR)?

A

Is the visual range measured by instruments (transmissometers) over which the pilot on the centreline of a runway can expect to see runway markings or lights delineating the runway or identifying the centreline.

Q

What is Fail Operational?

A

An autoland system that can sustain an autopilot failure leaving the aircraft under the control of the operational autopilot(s) with no noticeable change of flight path.

16
Q

Company take-off minima for all Network and Alternate Aerodromes are listed where?

A

Take-off Minimum Visibility/Autoland Approved Runways (FOD-391) in the AAM.

17
Q

Where can the take-off minima and zones required for a LVTO be found?

A

QRH - Low Vis Take-off Checklist.

18
Q

What is the minimum visibility at non-ATC aerodromes or outside tower hours?

A

550M RV by day or 800M RV by night as assessed by the pilot.

19
Q

If less than 550M RV/RVR but not less than350M RV/RVR what are the visibility and light markings required?

A
  • HIRL (max 60M spacing)
  • Runway centreline markings; or
  • Runway centreline lights.
20
Q

If less than 350M RV/RVR what are the visibility and light markings required?

A
  • HIRL (max 60M spacing)
  • Runway centreline markings; AND
  • Runway centreline lights (max 15M spacing).
21
Q

Explain the RVR format?

A

Format RDD/VVVVi or RDD/VVVVVVVVV. R and V are fixed, DD = runway, VVVV = RVR value and (i), upward (U), downward (D) or nil (N) tendency over the averaging period (preceding 10 mins). e.g. R36/0900U.
RDD/VVVVVVVVV is reported when the RVR has varied significantly during the averaging period. It gives the 1 minute mean minimum RVR followed by ‘V’ followed by the 1 minute mean maximum RVR. e.g. R16R/0500V1100.
When the RVR is greater than the max value, which can be assessed by the system, a ‘P’ will prefix the value. e.g. R32L/P1900. The opposite of this in the minimum case is R32L/M0100.

22
Q

What are the FO restrictions for LVO?

A

PM duties for LVTO down to 125M.

PF duties down to 550M only.

23
Q

When is a take-off alternate required and what restrictions are placed upon this alternate?

A

The takeoff alternate must be above CAT I minima, within 60 mins (410Nm) of the departure aerodrome, be a Network Aerodrome and be suitable from 30mins prior to ETA to 30mins after ETA.

24
Q

What are some of the preflight considerations for LVO?

A
  • Crew Quals
  • Aerodrome approved for LVTO.
  • Wx.
  • Fuel – additional for delays taxiing
  • Review Notams
  • Runway approach lighting
  • Nav Aids
  • RVR Equipment
25
Q

When is the Low Vis Checklist be completed?

A

The LVTO checklist (OPS Info QRH) should be completed as part of the departure briefing when the aerodrome visibility is below 800M and shall be completed for LVTO below 550M RV/RVR.

26
Q

What is the taxi speed during LVO?

A

Less then 10Kts.

27
Q

What is the primary responsibility of the PM when taxiing in LVO?

A

Aircraft’s position with reference to the airport chart. Rejected take-off? Where?

28
Q

Can a reduced thrust take-off be performed during LVO?

A

Yes but an assumed temperature method.

29
Q

Rolling starts are permitted during LVO?

True/False

A

False.

30
Q

Should the take-off be continued if the visibility suddenly reduces below 80KIAS?

A

No.

Steer left/right?

31
Q

When do the runway edge lights change to amber/yellow?

A

600M from the end of the runway.

32
Q

When do the centreline lights change to alternate red and white? (x2 interleaved cct)

A

900M from the end of the runway.

33
Q

When do the centreline lights change to all red?

A

300M from the end of the runway.

34
Q

What distance does the TDZ lighting extend on the runway?

A

900M and denotes the “landing mat”.

35
Q

Can a manual landing in CAT II conditions be carried out?

A

Yes - if the equipment fails after DA/DH, provided the aircraft is correctly aligned and visual cues are established.
