Luxators and elevators Flashcards
We should always carry out _____________ extractions
Atraumatic
What do we want o preserve when carrying out extractions
The buccal plate
What is an atraumatic tooth extractions
Causing as little trauma as possible when extracting a tooth
List the principles of exdontia
- Expansion of the bony socket
- Separation of the attachment of the periodontal ligament
- Separation of the attachment of th gingival tissues
How much horizontal alveolar ridge lose in width following extraction
3.8mm
What happens 24-48 hours post extraction
- Clot formation
2. fibrin meshwork
Name the last part of the socket that heals
The surface of the mucosa
What can happen if your forceps are in the wrong position
Buccal paste fracture
List bone preserving extraction techniques
Sever the connective tissue fibres
Minimise soft tissue reflection
Section multicoated teeth
Describe the end of a Periotomes
Sharp
Describe how to use a Periotomes
- Insert blade path the long axis of the tooth
- Tip of the peristome should be located within the crest of the alveolar bone
- Push instrument deeper into PDL space
- Wait 10-20 secs in situ to allow for bone expansion
- Gently push the Periotome down the PDL towards the apex
- Now use the Periotome like a lever
List differences in luxators
Size
Angle
How do we use luxators
- Insert towards root surface to the apex
- Apply axial pressure as you work down the root surface
- Gently rock to sever the PDL- this creates space to create an ai gap
- Deliver with forceps
How can we use elevators
- Horizontally
2. Along the long axis
What happens we we use elevators horizontally
Rotating around the fulcrum
