Luting Agents (Cements) Flashcards
What materials are used as a luting agent?
DENTAL CEMENTS
- Zinc phosphate
- Zinc carboxylate
GIC
- Conventional
- RM
COMP RESIN LUTING AGENT
- Total etch for use with DBA
- Self etch
- Requires etch but DBA incorporated
What is the difference in GIC luting agent and GIC restorative material?
Particle size of glass
SAME chemistry
What is the contra-indications for using RMGIC?
- Cementing porcelain crowns; HEMA swells in wet environment –> crack
- Cementing posts; splits roots
What material is recommended for bonding to an indirect composite inlay?
- Composite luting resin
- -> comp bonds with comp
- Use a dual curing system as light penetration of inlay will be poor
Tooth | DBA | CLR | Inlay
What material is recommended for bonding to porcelain?
- Composite luting resin BUT requires surface wetting agent = Silane Coupling Agent
- -> Dual curing system, light cure if porcelain is thin
- Treat porcelain with hydrofluoric acid to roughen surface (increases retention)
- Apply SCA to etched surface
Tooth | DBA | CLR | Silane | Porcelain
What material is recommended for bonding to non-precious metal?
- Composite luting resin BUT requires metal coupling agent
- -> Dual curing system only
SELF-ADHESIVE = Panavia21 has metal bonding agent (MDP) incorporated in resin
Tooth | DBA | CLR | MBA | Non-precious metal
What is the type of retention needed for a temporary cement?
Physical
What are the two types of temporary cements?
With eugenol
Without eugenol
What is the contraindication of using a temporary cement containing eugenol?
Where a RESIN cement will be used in the definitive restoration
(interferes with setting)
