Luria and Mesulam Models Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two parts of the brain as stated by the Luria Model?
A
The Front part of the brain - the motor unity and the Posterior part of the brain - the sensory unity
2
Q
What area of the brain does the Luria Model focus on?
A
The cortical area - the cortex
3
Q
What unit receives the first input for the brain?
A
The sensory unit receives information first and then it is transferred to the motor unit.
4
Q
What is the Luria Model in 6 steps?
A
- Primary sensory area - occipital cortex, auditory cortex and somatosensory cortex recieves unimodal sensation.
- Secondary sensory unit elaborates on the sensations - they remain unimodal
- Tertiary sensory unit integrates the sensations hetromodally.
- Tertiary motor unit plans what to do with the sensations - prefrontal cortex
- Secondary motor unit takes these plans and breaks them into sequences
- Primary motor unit executes the actions - motor cortex

Q
What are the 4 functional units in the Luria model?
A
- Arousal and attention unit
- Sensory input and integration unit
- Executive planning and organisation unit
- Limbic System
