Lupus related diseases Flashcards
Jessner’s lymphocytic infiltrate of skin occurs in what age group?
middle aged adults
What is pathogenesis of Jessner’s?
- photosensitive eruption (possible variant of tumid lupus and Reticular erythematous mucinosis)
How does Jessner’s lymphocytic infiltrate of skin present?
- red papules or plaques (often annular w/ central clearing)
- absent epidermal change
- typically on head, neck and upper back
does Jessner’s lymphocytic infiltrate of skin have systemic manifestations?
no (you may think because it has been considered on spectrum with tumid lupus)
Histopath of Jessner’s lymphocytic infiltrate of skin:
- similar to tumid LE and reticular erythematous mucinosis but with predominance of CD8+ T-cells and decreased mucin
- absent interface dermatitis
- superficial and deep dense PV/PA lymphocytic infiltrate
Treatment and prognosis of Jessner’s lymphocytic infiltrate of skin?
- sun protection (can do antimalarials)
- resolves spontaneously without sequelae
Classic population that get reticular erythematous mucinosis?
middle aged females with history of tanning bed use
Reticular erythematous mucinosis is on spectrum with_____ and _____?
tumid lupus and Jessner’s
How does reticular erythematous mucinosis present?
photoaggravated eruption consisting of erythematous papules or plaques on middle of chest/back in reticular configuration
Exacerbating factors of reticular erythematous mucinosis:
- OCPs
- menses
- pregnancy
- heat
- sweating
Histopath of reticular erythematous mucinosis?
same as Tumid lupus
- massive mucin deposition
- PV/PA lymphoid aggregates in upper and lower dermis
- no significant epidermal changes (lacks follicular plugging, vacuolar interface)
Treatment and prognosis of reticular erythematous mucinosis?
- sun protection, antimalarials
- resolution in 4-8 weeks w/ antimalarials
