Lungs In Detail Flashcards
Lungs
-respiratory organ in thoracic cavity
-each lungs invaginates pleural cavity
-both lungs separated by mediastinum
-spongy in texture
-brown /Grey at younger and mottled later due to the presence of carbon particles
-right lung 700 g ,50 to 100g heavier than left lung
Borders of lung
Anterior
-very thin
-shorter than Posterior
-right lung ,it is vertical
-left lung ,cardiac notch below 4th costal cartilage
Heart and pericardium not covered
Posterior
-thick and ill defined
-extend from C7 to T10
Inferior
-separate base from costal and medial surfaces
Surfaces of lungs
Costal
-large, convex
-contact with costal pleura and overlying thoracic wall
Medial
-2 types ,Posterior/ vertebral -intervertebral disc, vertebral bodies, Posterior intercostal vessels
Inferior/ mediastinal -mediastinal septum, cardiac impression, hilum. Etc
Roots of lung
-short
-broad pedicle which connects medial surfaces to mediastinum
-opposite to the bodies of T5,T6,T7
-formed by structures which either come out or enter lungs at hilum
Contents of roots of lungs
1,principle bronchus on left side, eparterial and hyparterial bronchi on right side
2,1 pulmonary artery
3,2 pulmonary veins,superior and inferior
4.bronchial arteries, 1 on right and 2 on left
5,bronchial veins
6,anterior and Posterior pulmonary plexus of nerves
7,lymphatic of lungs
8,bronchopulmonary lymph node
9,areolar tissue
Arrangement of structure in roots of lungs
From backwards
-superior pulmonary vein-pulmonary artery-bronchus
From downward
Right side
-eparterial bronchus-pulmonary artery-hyparterial bronchus-inferior pulmonary vein
Left side
Pulmonary artery-bronchus-pulmonary vein
