Lungs and Pleura Flashcards
Where does the apex of the lung fall?
Above the clavicle
Where does the horizontal fissue lie in the right lung
Follows Rib 4
Where does the oblique fissure lie in the right lung
Laterally at rib 4 and descneds medially to meet at rib 6 midclavicular line
Where does the base of the lungs? The pleural cavity?
Lung: Rib 6 anteriorly
Pleural cavity: Rib 8
Where is the cardiac notch in the left lung?
Starts as costal cartilage 4 and arches over to about the midclavicular line
What is louder, inspiration or expiration?
Inspiration
What connects the parietal layer to the chest wall?
Endothoracic fascia
What are the two main recesses of the pleural cavity
Costodiaphragmatic
Costomediastinal (associated with the cardiac notch)
Where do the main bronchus, pulmonary artery, and pulmonary veins lie in the RIGHT hilum
Main bronchus = posterior
Pulmonary artery = anterior
Pulmonary veins = anterior and inferior
Where do the main bronchus, pulmonary artery, and pulmonary veins lie in the LEFT hilum
Main bronchus = posterior
Pulmonary artery = superior
Pulmonary veins = anterior and inferior
What is the pulmonary ligament?
It is an inferior extension of the hilum
The trachea extends from
C7 to T4/T5 and then splits
Differences between L and R main bronchus
Right diverges more straight, left = more curved so objects can fall into right
Left main bronchus is longer
Left main bronchus has smaller diameter
What is the best diagnostic tool for pneumonia?
X-ray
Bronchial arteries arise from the
Thoracic aorta on the left and the 3rd posterior intercostal artery on the right
