Lungs Flashcards
What is the Laryngotracheal groove?
The site of the future trachea that begins as an out-pouching of the laryngeal tracheal groove.
The second step in developement of the laryngeal tracheal groove forms the ______.
Laryngotracheal Diverticulum.
Outpouching of the laryngotracheal groove grows into this larger pouch known as the laryngotracheal diverticulum (AKA early lung buds)
Where do the trachea and bronchial buds originate?
The splachnic mesoderm of the lateral plates.
Where does the inner lining of the trachea and bronchial buds originate?
The endoderm, from the trilaminar disc.
Note: the trachea and the esophagus are one unit in the beginning to share the endoderm
What is the role of the tracheoesophageal septum?
Seperation of the trachea and esophagus via ingrowths that eventually completely separate the two structure.
Failure of proper formation of the tracheoesophageal septum can result in:
tracheoesophageal fistula (connection) or atresia (blind pouch)
