What is the location of the trachea?
Starts at lower part of larynx
Splits into 2 main bronchi at lower border of T4
What is the difference between the conducting and respiratory portion of the tracheobronchial tree?
Conducting portion - No gas exchange occurs
Respiratory portion - Gas exchange occurs
What are the bronchial arteries?
Thoracic aorta (2 left)
Posterior intercostal artery (1 right)
What are the bronchial veins?
Azygous and accessory hemizygous system
What is the nerve supply of the parietal pleura?
Somatic nerve (intercostal and phrenic)
What is the nerve supply of the visceral pleura?
Autonomic nerves
What is pleural reflection?
The place at which parietal pleura changes it’s direction of travel.
What is pleural recess?
The increased space between the layers of pleura occurring at the pleural reflections.
