Lumbar Plexus Flashcards
The lumbar plexus stretches from ___ to ___
L1-L4
How many different nerves make up the lumbar plexus?
7
L1 contains?
3 nerves - Iliohypogastric nerve, Ilio-inguinal nerve, and genitofemoral nerve.
L2 contains?
4 nerves - Genitofemoral nerve, lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh, Femoral Nerve, and Obturator nerve
L3 contains?
3 nerves - Lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh, femoral nerve, and obturator nerve
L4 contains?
3 nerves - Femoral nerve, obturator nerve, and lumbosacral trunk
L5 contains?
Lumbosacral trunk
Where is the Iliohypogastric nerve located?
L1
Where is the Ilio-inguinal nerve located?
L1
Where is the Genitofemoral nerve located?
L1 and L2
Where is the lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh located?
L2 and L3
Where is the femoral nerve located?
L2-L4
Where is the Obturator nerve located?
L2-L4
Where is the lumbosacral trunk located?
L4 and L5 *Note the lumbosacral trunk extends into L5 whereas the lumbar plexus only extends to L4. Therefore the lumbosacral trunk is a part of the lumbar and sacral plexus.
