Q

Cranial nerve IX

A

Glossopharyngeal Nerve
Branchial Motor - supply striated muscle of the stylopharyngeus (muscle by ear)
Visceral Motor - (think parasympathetics) supply otic ganglion which sends fibers to stimulate the parotid gland
Visceral Sensory - carries sensation from the carotid body and from the carotid sinus
General Sensory - sensation from the posterior one third of the tongue, skin of the external ear and internal surface of tympanic membrane (gag reflex when poked in ear)
Special Sensory - taste from posterior one-third

Q

Cranial Nerve X

A

Vagus Nerve
Branchial Motor - to striated muscles of the pharynx, tongue, and larynx (except stylopharyngeus CN IX and tensor veli palati CN V)
Visceral Motor - To smooth muscle of glands, pharynx, larnyx, and thoracic, and abdominal viscera.
Visceral Sensory - (think parasympathetics) from the larynx, trachea, esophagus, and thoracic abdominal viscera, stretch receptors in the walls of the aortic arch, chemoreceptors in the aortic bodies and adjacent to the arch.
General Sensory - from the skin and the back of the ear and in the external acoustic meatus part of the external surfaces of the tympanic membrane and the pharynx.
