lumbar intervention/manip/mob Flashcards
what are four criteria that would qualify a patient for manipulation?
no symptoms distal to the knee
recent onset of symptoms (<16 d)
low FABQW score (low fear avoidance)
hypomobility of the lumbar spine
what is wind-up?
sensitization of nervous system such that a painful stimulus given repeatedly hurts more than initial
in a normal pain response stimulus produces same effect
what effect does thoracic manip have on wind-up?
decreases it
according to bishop, what has the biggest effect on patient response to manipulation?
patient expectation
what are indications for mechanical traction?
positive response to manual traction
movement testing worsens sx’s or acute radiculopathy (as in symptoms don’t centralize)
what are four basic positions for lumbar traction?
supine: knees and hips flexed to 90 supported by stool
supine: knees flexed, feet on table
supine: hips/knees extended
prone
what are indications for positional tractions (patient in sidelying)?
unilateral pain
