Catch
The oar enters the water and the drive begins.

A rowing error - oar is not removed from the water when it should

From when the oar enters the water (‘catch’) until it is removed (‘release/finish’).

To turn the oar so the blade is parallel with the water

At the end of the drive, just as the oar is removed from the water.
