LT 2(Unit 2) Flashcards
1
Q
Steps of Cell Development
A
- Conception
- Cleavage - cell differentiation
- Blastocyst
- Gastrulation
2
Q
Cleavage
A
rapid cell division - also when cells differentiate
3
Q
Cell Differentiation
A
- a process that enables cells to divide
- Stem cells - cells that can divide as many times as they want without specializing and can create new cells that do specialize
- Progenitor Cell - partially specialized stem cells, can occur after cell division
4
Q
Blastocyst
A
cluster of dividing cells, implanted in the uterus
5
Q
Gastrulation
A
Cells start to specialize and split into three primary germ layers
6
Q
Three primary germ layers
A
- endoderm
- ectoderm
- mesoderm
7
Q
Endoderm
A
innermost layer, forms lining of digestive tract and its derivatives
8
Q
Mesoderm
A
middle layer, forms tissue for blood vessels, muscles, bones
9
Q
Ectoderm
A
outer layer, forms the skin
10
Q
Histogenisis
A
process of germ layers differentiating into different tissues
