ERYTHEMATOSUS
What are the classifications of LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS?
● Discoid Lupus Erythematosus
● Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
● Drug-induced Lupus Erythematosus
● Neonatal Lupus Erythematosus
CLASSIFICATION OF LE
-is an autoimmune disease
-the immune system of the body mistakenly attacks healthy tissue
-it can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, and other organs
SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS
production of antibodies against the tissues of your own
AUTOIMMUNITY
What are the Effects of AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER?
✓ Failure to display self-antigens
✓ Presence of genetic abnormalities
✓ Self-reactive clones of T-cells & B-cells
CLASSIFICATION OF LE:
- is a chronic skin condition of sores with inflammation and scarring favoring the face, ears, and scalp and at times on other body areas.
-These lesions develop as a red, inflamed patch with a
scaling and crusty appearance. The center areas may appear lighter in color with a rim darker than the normal skin.
DISCOID LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS (DLE)
CLASSIFICATION OF LE:
What are the 3 DIVISIONS OF DLE?
-LOCALIZED
-GENERALIZED
-CHILDHOOD DISCOID LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS
CLASSIFICATION OF LE:
● non contagious, chronic, progressive inflammatory
disease of the connective tissue
● cause is UNKNOWN
● Chronic, progressive inflammatory connective tissue
disorder that can cause major body and system failure
● Characterized by spontaneous remission (the state
of absence of disease activity in patients with a
chronic illness, with the possibility of return of disease)
SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS (SLE)
CLASSIFICATION OF LE:
What is the cause of SLE?
UNKNOWN
