LPO Phase 3 - De-Icing and Snow Clearance Flashcards
When will SNOCLO procedures be used?
Only when the landing area is completely unusable and the AFDM informs the VCR Sup that the excessive accumulation of snow makes the landing area unusable.
What is JEDI?
A joint effort between BA, HAL, and ATC to allow for BA aircraft to be de-iced on a remote part of the airfield, the benefit being that it frees up stands or inbound aircraft and allows for a continuous de-icing, which is more efficient
What are the 3 states of JEDI?
Open, Standby and Closed
What do the 3 states of JEDI mean?
Open: JEDI area is in force and there are restrictions to the ground space that ATC have to adhere to
Standby: JEDI Area is set up for de-icing with rigs and boards in place, but there is no ATC restrictions associated with the JEDI locations
Closed: JEDI is no longer in force and rigs and personnel stand down.
Can an aircraft be given pushback approval for JEDI, if JEDI is in standby?
Yes
If told by the VCR Sup that JEDI is open, as the LPO what do you do?
Ensure that the appropriate maps/OSIs are selected on the ASMGCS and the MCP
Where is the JEDI pad controller located and how do you contact them?
They are located between stand 581 and taxiway D and can be contacted via the VCCS panel by selecting JEDI
Describe where JEDI south is
B south between C and E. The aircraft are positioned abeam stand 581 whilst they are de-iced, and must approach from the west.
Describe where JEDI D is
on taxiway D between stands 568 and 566. The aircraft are positioned on D facing north abeam stand 568 when being de-iced and when they are finished, they taxi to an intermediate stop line between abeam stand 566 and 565.
What do you do if an aircraft wishes to park/tow/push on stand 582 or 583 when JEDI south is open?
Coordinate with the pad controller and decide when the traffic can move and how it can approach, typically from the east.
Whilst JEDI south is open, you wish to route an aircraft through D1. What must you do before this can happen?
Coordinate with the pad controller
What is the restriction with stand 568 when JEDI south is open
As a pushback from 568 infringes taxiway B when facing north, any pushbacks or engine starts must be coordinated with the pad controller prior to it being approved by ATC.
When coordinating with the pad controller about aircraft movements, what key descriptive piece of information is necessary over the phone
To mention the aircraft type, so it is more easily identified as well as some aircraft types requiring the repositioning of the de-icing rigs.
Whilst Jedi Delta is open, what must you do if you wish to route an aircraft into or out of 565-568 or 575-576
Coordinate with the pad controller
Can JEDI be used in LVPs?
Yes
